Polly Iyer was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, a coastal city north of Boston. After graduating from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, she didn’t need much encouragement to accompany a friend to Italy, where they both expected to spend a year. Polly spent a year and a half. Her friend never came home. It was a formative time. Having never experienced much outside her own area, Rome truly was the City of Lights. And enlightenment. During that time, she worked as a free-lance illustrator for Women’s Wear Daily, sketching the designs of Valentino and Emilio Pucci, among others. Upon returning to the States, she continued free-lancing for Fairchild Publications, covering all of New England, in addition to offering copywriting and illustration services to a select group of clients.

Then Polly discovered writing, and everything changed. Her sons were grown. No more soccer, karate, track, or music lessons. Business had changed to where her talents were no longer the driving force. Writing was all she wanted to do. Fortunately, her husband supported the effort. It’s been an extensive learning curve, and she gives all the credit to her brilliant critique partners, who have made her work better, and the support of her "Sisters in Crime." In 2011, she published two erotic romances under the name Maryn Sinclair, but by the end of the year, she decided to indie publish some of the romantic suspense novels she had tucked away in her computer. Surprisingly, they sold. By early 2012, she had published the books shown in this website. With a little updating, she'll publish a few more. By the way, she used her art training to do all her own covers. That was another learning curve, but it was also fun.

Polly is  past president and current treasurer of the Upstate South Carolina Chapter of Sisters in Crime.

After moving to Atlanta, Polly took up duplicate bridge at the urging of friends. On her first night at the club, she met the handsome Indian she would later marry. It was love at first sight, as long as they never played bridge together. They moved to South Carolina for his job, and Polly continued her career as a storyboard illustrator for a large advertising agency. She and her husband began importing antique textiles from India, and before long owned wholesale showrooms and a retail home furnishings store.
